The Games Deserving of a Remaster

Taking a focus away from games that have already had their remaster, there is still plenty of classic, all-round favourite games that have been ignored, and that I truly believe would benefit from better graphics.

A game deserving in particular includes... Jak and Daxter. If you are not familiar with this, I hope you get to know it, and how amazing this game truly is. I would say that this game has similarities to Ratchet and Clank, however with less space/animatronic elements. Before looking into this game, I had no idea that it was originally Naughty Dog that developed it, no surprise why I am such a fan of it!

The game which I had the most attachment to as a child was Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, which came out in 2001. Of course, on its release I wasn't born yet, but enjoyed it years later, and still do to this day. When first playing this game, it was on the console it was originally released on, The PlayStation 2. I have fond memories sitting between my mum's lap whilst I would help jump through levels. As getting older, and acquiring my own PlayStation 4, I wanted to revisit this game. I do see myself as a 'trophy hunter' and the achievements in this game aren't too hard to get. So, naturally, I purchased the game and was immersed once again.

For backsory on the game, this follows a young teen called Jak, with his sidekick Daxter (who unfortunately at the beginning of the game got turned into a rodent-like creature), travel through a range of missions, and objectives in the form of minigames, to stop the world being destroyed by an energy known as 'Dark Eco'. This Dark Eco is known to be one of the reasons I died so many times in this game.

What I found interesting when looking up on the devleopment of this game, is that it is credited for its  lack of loading screens, which is positive in keeping the players amongst the gameplay. With this fact, I could definitely see it working well as a remastered game, since an expectation for gamers now is little to no loading screens to stay immersed in the gameplay.

One of the difficulties I would say with this is that the display was still displaying as if I was playing this game on an older console and of course with console evolution buttons change. A major change was the quality of the controller, and in particular its layout. I'll post both the PS2 and PS4 controller, so you can see the difference, in particular you may notice with the PS4, there is a touch pad in the middle of it.

The touchpad has been used in more recent games as a button to interact with tasks, and on some occasions allows for the player to enter the options screen. With the evolution of the controller, and of course graphics in general, it would be silly for this game not to have a remaster attached to it. Even simple refining's of including usage of the touchpad, to some features that were lost from the crossover to PS2 to PS4, would be beneficial to this game.

As this is my last blog post, I hope that I have done each of these games justice I have reviewed and gave you an insight into these games if you have had no previous knowledge. Who knows, maybe I'll be back when there is a remaster of Jak and Daxter (a girl can dream)
