Nathan Drake Supremecy
... No surprise another Naughty Dog game makes it on the iconic remastered list
For backstory for those unfamiliar with this third person story driven game follows a group of treasure hunters, who travel globally in pursuit of uncovering historical mysteries. The main themes across this game series includes fiction, alongside real-world historical figures and events, giving a connection to the player whilst still feeling indulged in a 'fantasy' world.
This series has multiple games connected to it, including:
- Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (2007)
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (2009)
- Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception (2011)
- Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (2016)
There are other spin-off games attached to this, however, for the purpose of exploring the remastered one I am purely focusing on Uncharted Legacy of Thieves, released in 2022. This remastered version, released for PlayStation 5 and PC, includes an upgraded version of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, and spin-off of the Nathan Drake story, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (originally released in 2017).
With this remaster there was high anticipation to grow on graphics from a now 7/8-year-old game and make usage of the abilities of an upgraded system, to bring to light the potentials of this game, to make it as immersive of a game as possible.
One of the ways I have found that the player can truly be engulfed in this game is through the inclusion of 3D audio in the remastered version. It is one of the qualities which makes music more enjoyable, and similarly has the same effect with gameplay. It is much more helpful with sound coming from the left headphone to indicate there is movement on the left of the screen, enabling an advantage for players to grasp a better understanding for their surroundings.
Uncharted will always be a game I will enjoy, regardless the rendering of the graphics, maybe because of the attraction to be looking for treasure and travelling the world has been something my younger self would dream of doing (unrealistic of course).
It is worth noting that if the game isn't your taste, but you like the sound of the story itself, then there is a movie based on this series released in 2022 titled, 'Uncharted', with amazing actors such as Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg, also featuring in this action-packed movie.
As next week will be my last blog post, I will admit it won't be focused on a game itself but rather looking into games which I believe deserve to be remastered. As always if you have any ideas on games that would be deserving of better graphics to meet with present day consoles, let me know with a comment.
Thanks!
